Is this the right format for you?
A working level
- You can tell a story or make an argument without translating each sentence in your head
- You can read an everyday Chinese article and discuss your own view in Chinese
- You want specific feedback on wording and tone without losing the flow of the conversation
This format may not suit you if you want
- to start with pinyin, basic grammar, or pronunciation
- lessons taught through English
- to focus on HSK or another standardised exam, or simply to book unstructured conversation practice
What could we talk about for fifty minutes?
It might be a difficult client, a passage from a novel, or a custom you understand but still find strange. Something already on your mind usually leads to a better conversation than a prepared prompt.
- Law, institutions, and the people affected by them
- What business language leaves unsaid
- Literature, cities, and modern China
- Tea, its objects, and the customs around it
- How wording and tone differ between mainland China and Taiwan

About Eva

I’m Eva. I listen for the part of an answer that has not yet been fully expressed. I may ask you to clarify a distinction, give the example you passed over, or reconsider a word that sounds more certain than you intended. I usually wait until you have finished the thought before correcting the language.

What happens in fifty minutes
- Bring
Bring a question, a text, or an opinion you have not quite worked out. - Talk
We stay in Chinese. I ask questions, but there is time to follow a useful detour. - Review
At the end, we return to a few places where your wording changed the meaning, tone, or degree of formality.
